We have just released Sohodox, our document management solution for small offices and small project teams. Sohodox supports the use of folders, tags and document types for indexing/organizing documents. Sohodox is multi-user, stores it’s data in a MS Access based DB and features a simplified security model based on public and private folders.

Sohodox offers an easy upgrade path to Globodox in case your document volume or number of users goes up.

Existing users of doQuments Professional Edition will be able to upgrade to Sohodox as soon as the upgrade utility is available (around 1-2 weeks time).

After the Globodox 5 release last week, we realised that we must simplify our release process. It’s just too complicated at the moment.  We have decided that this must be done before releasing Sohodox. This means that the Sohodox release may get delayed by some time. We now expect to release Sohodox by November 6 2008.

Simplification of the release process will ensure that our response times  - when releasing bug fixes etc. - will remain as fast as what our customers are used to.

Today’s release also includes a trial of the optional Globodox Live Disc module. Globodox Live Disc lets you burn your database along with a viewer onto a CD/DVD. You can then view the CD/DVD on any Windows machine (XP or higher). The viewer (a lite version of Globodox Desktop Client) runs off the CD and lets you query and view contents of the database. No installation on the host machine is necessary!

The Globodox Web Client module should be released in a few weeks. It will be included with Globodox Suite and will be optionally available with Globodox Core.

The Globodox Web Client provides web browser based access to any Globodox DB. It requires no client side install and you can use it on your Intranet or over the Internet.

Globodox Web Client is cross browser and works on Internet Explorer 6+, Firefox 2+, Opera 9, Safari and Google Chrome.

Very, very happy to anounce the release of Globodox 5. Phew! A big congratulations to the entire team which has worked so hard over the past so many months. We are not done yet, the next couple of weeks will see a few more releases.

Today’s release includes the desktop client including the integrated workflow module. It however does not include the Web Client, which provides access to your Globodox DB via any web browser. More about this soon…

Unfortunately we hit some last minute technical glitch and will only be able to go ahead with the Globodox  release on Monday morning. The new web site is already up.

We really wanted to do this today, but this just can’t be helped…

We are also introducing Sohodox - a new document management product designed for the small business.  Sohodox is a multi-user document management solution and contains a lot of the features of Globodox. However it leaves out advanced document management features such as check-in/checkout, versioning, workflow etc…

Sohodox databases are MS Access based (note: you do not need to have MS Access installed to use Sohodox). We will offer a simple migration path from Sohodox to Globodox. Globodox can have MS SQL Server or MySQL based databases and can therefore handle much larger document volumes.

We expect to release Sohodox on October 25th 2008. A single Sohodox license is priced at US $199…

Globodox is now a much more powerful and mature product. It’s pricing is being revised upwards to reflect the new capabilities. Inspite of the price rise, with it’s current feature set Globodox probably still remains one of the most economically priced document management solutions in the market.

We are still some time away from release. Most of us haven’t slept much in the last 24 hours but the excitement has just kept us going. Seriously looking forward to a relaxed Sunday.

With the release of version 5, we are changing the product name from doQuments to Globodox. We have wanted to do this for a long time. Globodox will be available in two editions Globodox Suite and the lower priced Globodox Core. Globodox Suite will include the workflow and web client modules. These modules can be separately purchased by Globodox Core customers.

As you may know, for almost the last two years we have been working on the new version 5 of our document management product doQuments. We are very excited about what we have created and there is a lot that we have to communicate to our existing and potential customers. I hope to do just that with this blog.

With less than 24 hours to go to for the release of the new version of our product, we are almost ready. Just checking the updated web site pages before they are uploaded and verifying some other documentation. If there no last minute glitches, looks like it will happen tomorrow afternoon!  More soon…
