How to set Windows folder permissions (Windows Vista)

For this example we will assume that we want to provide the IUSR_DOQUMENTS user Read permissions on the C:\inetpub\wwwroot\doquments folder.

.Using Windows Explorer open the folder which contains the folder to set the permissions for. In this case open the C:\Inetpub\wwwroot folder.

.Right click the doquments folder and select Properties from the pop-up menu. The Properties dialog will be displayed.
.Move to the Security tab of the Properties dialog.

.If the IUSR_DOQUMENTS user is not listed, click the Edit button. The Permissions for doQuments dialog will now be launched.

.Click the Add... button Permissions for doQuments dialog. The Select Users, Computers, or Groups dialog will be displayed.

.Type in IUSR_DOQUMENTS in the Enter the object names to select area.
.Click the OK button to close the Select Users or Groups dialog.
.The selected user will now be displayed in the Permissions for doQuments dialog.
.Assign the Read permission to the selected IUSR_DOQUMENTS user. To do this check the box in the Allow column for the Read permission. Also uncheck the boxes in the Allow and Deny columns for all other permissions.

.Click the OK button to save the changes and close the Properties dialog.
